What this test checks
Compares the company itself with the entities designated on the UK Sanctions List, which has been the only list of UK sanctions designations since 28 January 2026.
A match on company number, or on an exact name together with another identifier, is treated as confirmed. A match on a similar name alone is a possible match that needs checking by a person before anything is concluded.
What a fail looks like
The company appears to be a designated entity. If confirmed, dealing with it, or making money or goods available to it, can be a criminal offence unless a licence permits it.
Harmless explanations
- Possible matches on name alone are often a different organisation with a similar name, especially for common words or transliterated names.
What to do
- Do not make payments or deliver goods to the company until the match is resolved.
- Compare the designation details (address, registration number, aliases) with the company's own details.
- If the match is confirmed, take legal advice and report to the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation where required.
Background: Sanctions screening.
