What this test checks
Reads the enforcement actions recorded against the firm on the Financial Services Register: fines, public censures, suspensions and restrictions imposed by the Financial Conduct Authority or the Prudential Regulation Authority.
These are formal regulatory sanctions following an investigation, and they are published.
What a fail looks like
The firm has at least one recorded enforcement action. A regulator found that it broke its rules.
Harmless explanations
- Large firms can carry old actions that relate to historic practices since corrected.
What to do
- Read the final notice on the FCA website: what happened, when, and the penalty.
- Ask what the firm changed afterwards.
- Check whether any restriction still limits what the firm can do for you.
