What this test checks
Looks for goods vehicle or public service vehicle operator licences that a Traffic Commissioner has curtailed, cutting the number of vehicles allowed, or suspended, so the licence cannot be used for a period.
Both are formal sanctions, usually following a public inquiry into the operator's conduct, vehicle maintenance or financial standing, and they affect only a small share of licences.
What a fail looks like
The operator's licence has been curtailed or suspended. A regulator found serious enough failings to restrict its fleet or stop it operating.
Harmless explanations
- A curtailment can be time-limited and the operator back to full strength afterwards.
What to do
- Read the Traffic Commissioner's decision if published, and ask the operator what has changed.
- Check the operator can still provide the vehicles your contract needs.
