What this test checks

Since 18 November 2025, directors must verify their identity with Companies House. New directors verify on appointment; existing directors have until their company's first confirmation statement after that date, within a transition period that ends in November 2026.

The test reads each active director's verification deadline from the register and checks whether verification has been completed. It reports directors who are overdue, and those whose deadline falls in the next 30 days.

What a fail looks like

At least one active director has passed their verification deadline without verifying. Until they do, the company cannot file its confirmation statement, and acting as a director without verifying is an offence.

Harmless explanations

  • A director may have verified very recently and the register may not yet show it.
  • Some directors are verifying through an authorised agent such as an accountant, which can take a little longer to appear.

What to do

  • Ask the company when its directors will verify.
  • Watch the confirmation statement: if it becomes overdue as a result, the company is heading towards compliance action.
